Culprit Sessions @ The Standard | Episode 3 | Art Department, jozif, Droog & Sean Patrick Comments

3 of the running Culprit rooftop series was an emphatic proof that the right kind of replacements need not be a afterthought. Filling in for Maceo Plex, The Martinez Brothers made the party completely their own with the irresistible blend of classic and modern house music, delivered with panache and ultimate charm.

Onto what promises to be one of our most epic and anticipated events ever: the awesomely gifted Art Department and jozif are converging onto the roof come June 3rd. This is a party of big ambition and the potential for exceptional musical entertainment to match. The ubiquitous Art Department are the genre’s major success story of the past three years: two veterans of the Toronto underground, Jonny White and Kenny Glasgow, united under the re-emerging Crosstown Rebels banner in 2009 propelled themselves into the elite tier of global dance music acts. Along with Jamie Jones and Maceo Plex, Art Department have been one of the main driving forces in Crosstown’s incredible rise to prominence in the last few years. Few acts recently have managed to encompass a sound, essentially creating their own, in such a short time. Since their debut single “Without You” conquered everything in its path in 2010, AD have been on a non-stop whirlwind of increasingly prominent gigs, productions and collaborations. Having played part in the massive Get Lost show at Music Box last year, Art Department make their richly deserved rooftop debut.

Over the last 12 months jozif has become a familiar name to the followers of Culprit. After remixing Shonky’s “Oasis,” jozif has become a key Culprit ingredient, with a Standard rooftop debut last October, slots at the label’s showcases in Miami and Sonar, and two EPs of music. Make sure to arrive early for this one as things are going to get thick!
